Look at what I just ordered!!!

2 Attachment(s)
I just got off the phone with a dealer for 100 silver mex libs, and a 1oz gold Mapleleaf .99999 pure. Count those "9s" again. That is correct; there are 5 nines of purity!

Supposedly, even a figure print smudge ruins the purity, so I will not be touching this round, ever. Only 30K made. Get them while you can.

I will post pics once it arrives. Until then here is stock photo. It is a minature design of the 100Kilo round

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THAT GOLD MAPLE LEAF:thumbs up . It is such a beautiful change from the classic single maple leaf and the design of the 3 leaves are awesome! I also love the incuse design. I was on a Canadian site when they were first making these as a test run and there were only something like 500 made. You had to sign up for a drawing to be able to purchase one and they cost $1950 at the time.:shocked_ma: How much were you able to purchase it for?? You are the bomb--cheers to you:beer:

PM out to you. If I told you the dealer in this thread it would get moved to the dealer feedback section. I want the thread to stay here.

I paid $692 plus shipping. For the 100 mex libs and the maple leaf I am paying $2114.45 to my door.

I may sell this one. The idea is this will probably be a huge collector item. 30K worldwide. this should be a hot-hot-hot item.

It's a beautiful round, and for the right price in a decade or two, I could let this bugger go.

Wow, those are absolutely gorgeous! I will be ready to purchase more silver in the next week or so. I was planning to get a 100 oz bar of silver simply because I don't have one yet. Now, after seeing this thread, I'm thinking I may have a change of heart. I guess I have some serious thinking to do over the next couple of days. :eek_ma:

If the photo is one of the coins that you purchased, then you got one of the test coins. Unless I am wrong, they only made 500 of these and now they have started to produce them--they are currently being sold on Apmex for about $700. The "test coins" had a special laser marking on it, were numbered and sold for a few thousand dollars. The production coin has the 30K mintage--the ones that are being sold on Apmex. Am I mistaken here? It looks as if you got one of the rare "500 test coins". See here these links:

Hey, Senior Silverio:

I hope I get one of the 500 test coins, but in all reality it is one of the 30K. I just grabbed the first pic I found. I should have mentioned the laser mark was for the test coins you referred to.

Don't forget, the Australian Lunar series was also limited to 30K worldwide. Beautiful coin, not significantly more than spot - but banking on the collectible angle might not be true....

:signs14:

The test coins however.....

What is not to love about this round? This is the MOST PURE GOLD publically available. Five 9's of purity! :s11: That in and of itself speaks highly. Also some of those Australian lunars, notably the dragon, sell for huge premiums over spot.

Go for it J-son. You just cashed in some 90%. You need a good place to secure those FRNs.

TRUE! But those coins had a limited mintage of 30,000 and the symbols are embraced is Asia and with many people throughout the world. Is this a limited release?

And beyond Canadians - do you know anyone whose birth symbol is the maple leaf?

I am not being sarcastic - I am wondering if they will ever be considered more than bullion too.

Master Ho, I am surprised! Oh, Ye of little faith. :508: I suspect many a flower child was born under a Maple Leaf tree!

Actually it's a good question. Two items, in my mind stand out, the 3 Maple leafs, and more importantly the five 9's of purity. This is the purest gold coin on the market!

It may not catch. I think it will. How many years before the US mint replicates an old design on a five 9 gold coin? Probably use the mercury dime design.

Do not take it out, Tom. As I understand it, even a smudge print will effect the purity. Anything could happen to it in an open environment, ANYTHING.

Shoot it in the capsule, and live with the quality difference.

Re: Look at what I just ordered!!!

It looks nice and I gave it a moments thought but I have to still look at it as bullion. Purity - I don't really care because if it's 999 9999 or 99999 it is still 1 oz of gold. I always get a kick out of folks that pay a premium for 9999 when they can get 1 oz of Au of 999 purity for less. None of us even own the equipment that could measure the purity - bottom line it is 1 oz of Au. IMO. That said I do like the new design (three leaves).

AgAuGal 05-31-2007 09:12 PM

Re: Look at what I just ordered!!!

I can be reasoned w/ (usually) - if anyone can explain good reasons for paying a premium for purity I would like to hear them.

:coolbeer:

the only real reason i might even consider it is due to the somewhat low mintage and the hype behind it. people always pay for hype...even on the resell....until some country comes out with 6 9's. :haha:

AlwaysWrite 06-01-2007 03:07 AM

Re: Look at what I just ordered!!!

There is no reason to pay a premium, unless you must be the first person on the block to have one. They are prettier, and I want one (even though it's a gimmick), but I won't pay a premium. My dealer told me that when the old Maples switched from .999 to .9999 some suckers paid a premium for a while, but now they are all bought and sold for the same price. So I will wait 6 months or a year and buy them for a few bucks over spot.

Also, my understanding is that it is very very bad to take it out of the airtite. The airtite is actually embedded and plastic wrap sealed with the certificate of authenticity. You would lose money if you tried to re-sell without it, kinda like taking a Panda out of the original mint plastic wrap.

Beauty ain't it, J-son? Are you going to get yours graded?

I have been debating this for a month now, and I do not trust either company to not lose it, and reimburse me the cost. Maybe I am paranoid, but it does happen. My dealer sent in what was probably a MS66-67 merc dime to PCGS. Oops they lost it. Gave him some FRNs and free grading for awhile, but no where near the amount of FRNs a 66-67 would have brought.

I'm not saying a 5-9 is as beautiful as a full band merc, but still it is unique.
